National Nursing Conference 2024: Empowering Future Nursing Leaders

On April 29, 2024, Gleneagles BGS Hospitals in Kengeri, Bengaluru, hosted the National Nursing Conference themed "Nursing Leadership for Future India @ 2047" at the Srihari Khoday Centre for Performing Arts. The event brought together approximately 360 participants, including nursing leaders, healthcare professionals, and industry experts, to discuss the future of nursing leadership and its role in shaping healthcare over the next two decades.

Event Highlights

The conference commenced by a welcome address and felicitation of guests by Ms Chandrakala and Gleneagles leaders Mr Biju Nair, Dr Jyothi Clara, and Ms Judith Vasan. The ceremonial lamp lighting symbolized the inauguration of the event.

  1. Ms Gracy Mathai, CEO of Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode: Ms Mathai emphasized the need for innovation and forward-thinking in nursing leadership, sharing insights from her experience to inspire attendees.
  2. Dr Giridhar J Gyani, Director General of AHPI: Dr Gyani highlighted the importance of high standards and rigorous accreditation in healthcare, advocating for strong government collaboration.
  3. Dr Vijay Agarwal, President of CAHO India: Dr Agarwal discussed the evolving role of nursing leaders in management and policy advocacy, stressing the need for continuous quality improvement.
  4. Dr Alexander Thomas, Founder & Patron of AHPI: Dr Thomas spoke on integrating global health trends and ethical practices into nursing leadership, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.

Scientific Sessions and Workshops The scientific sessions featured expert talks on various aspects of nursing leadership:

  • Dr Parivalavan Rajavelu discussed developing essential leadership skills in nursing.
  • Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi focused on quality improvement and innovation in nursing.
  • Ms Sheetal Agarwal introduced medical clowning as a therapeutic strategy in healthcare.
  • Dr Indu Arneja emphasized the importance of design thinking in enhancing patient experiences.
  • Mr Sreekanthan Gobalakrishna explored the role of English proficiency in nursing practice.
  • Mr Nandakumar provided updates on advancements in wound care dressing.

Panel Discussion A panel discussion, moderated by Ms Thankam Gomez, included esteemed panelists who envisioned the future of nursing leadership. Key points discussed included the integration of technology, ethical considerations, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Conclusion The conference concluded with a valedictory speech by Major General Elizabeth John, who shared insights from her military nursing experience, emphasizing leadership qualities such as adaptability and resilience.
