Department of Infectious Diseases

Infectious Diseases

The Department of Infectious Diseases at Gleneagles Hospitals provides advanced treatment, care and management of serious, life-threatening infectious diseases and disorders. Undertaking both in-patient and outpatient consultations, the Department offers excellent treatment and consultation for long-duration fever and other hidden infections. The Department of Infectious Diseases also offers advisory on travel, safety, vaccination and other precautions for patients currently suffering from infections.

We also undertake pre-transplant evaluation and checks for patients expected to undergo an organ transplant. This is to minimize the risk of Post-transplant infections as the patients will be placed on immunosuppressants leading to a higher risk of infections.

The Department is also the nodal agency for implementing infection control measures across the hospital and monitors the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) efforts of the hospital. This includes the monitoring of the use of high-end antibiotics, assistance in dosing of antibiotics in patients, prevention of drug interactions and monitoring of side effects.

The Department of Infectious Diseases offers treatment of infections for:
  • Hospitalized medical/surgical patients
  • OB-GYN patients
  • HIV-infected patients
  • Cancer patients
  • Solid Organ/Stem Cell Transplant Recipients
  • Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Treatment (OPAT) patients
Additionally, the Department of Infectious Disease is involved in clinical research of:
  • Mycology
  • Multidrug-resistant Infections
  • General Infectious Diseases
  • Infections in Cancer/Transplant populations
