Dr Swarup Pal is a distinguished Cardiovascular, Thoracic and Transplant surgeon at Gleneagles hospital, Mumbai. He brings with him 18 years of extensive experience in his field. He completed his MBBS from LTMMC at Sion, and went on to study MS followed by MCh from the prestigious institute Seth G S Medical college and KEM hospital. During his time there, he received niche training to become adept at both adult and paediatric cardiac surgery. Next, he trained under the mentorship of Padma Bhushan Dr M R Girinath at the pre-eminent Apollo hospital, Chennai which further finessed his skills as a surgeon. He was also involved in academics at the time and was a DNB teacher at Apollo, Chennai.
Currently, he and his well-trained team do all complex coronary surgeries [total arterial beating heart bypasses], valve repairs and replacements, atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, surgeries for aortic aneurysms/ dissections, cardiac tumour resection, minimally invasive cardiac surgeries [MICS] and Robotic surgeries. His expertise extends to lung surgeries like decortication, VATS, Pleur X insertion, lung biopsies/resections, surgeries for collapsed lungs or air leaks, tuberculosis and lung hydatids. A specialist in vascular surgeries such as- removing blockages from the carotid arteries (vessel supplying blood to the brain), reconstructing limb arteries in limb gangrene and diabetic foot, creating hemodialysis access [ AV Fistulas] for dialysis patients, vessel reconstruction in cancer [oncology] surgeries, chemo-port insertion, and bypasses of the arteries supplying the gut. He has an active interest in emergency trauma procedures for stab / bullet injuries, rib fractures, lung lacerations and diaphragmatic injuries. His team is an integral part of the heart failure programme which includes Heart- Lung Transplants, ECMOs and VADs.
