Dr Rajeev Nikte is a highly trained medical professional with a cumulative experience of 25 years. Currently, he’s heading the Department of Transfusion Medicine in Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai. He’s been associated with some of the most renowned hospitals in India.

Being a practitioner of blood component therapy, Dr Nikte has not used whole blood for transfusion for almost 2 decades now. He’s been a strong force in initiating Blood Component Therapy in many Tertiary Care Hospitals for many years which is now a standard practice in most hospitals. He was also one of the early practitioners who started reaching out to the patients instead of asking them to look for blood in times of crisis.

Dr Rajeev is also considered the first in India to take a step ahead in the safety of blood, by introducing the p24 Antigen Test for HIV and thereafter using the fourth-generation kits for early detection and prevention of Transfusion Transmissible Infections, and now NAT tests etc, as and when introduced. But never the less he maintains that Donor education and councelling is of paramount importance for adequate and safe blood supply.

In addition, he’s been trained as an Internal Quality Auditor in the Quality Management System. He has been an Empanelled Principal Assessor at NABH for Accreditation of Blood Centres with a vast experience in various types of Assessments. He’s also been invited as faculty, or to conduct Internal Audits of Blood Centres to verify compliance of NABH/CAP standards and for training programs for FDA officials in quality systems.
